Is it bad to leave those leaves on your lawn?
Have you ever noticed in a forest that the ground is covered in decaying leaves rather than grass? This same thing can happen to your lawn if you don’t upkeep and remove the leaves that fall. Here are some reasons why it’s good to remove fallen leaves from your lawn…
Light
Without light, it makes it difficult for grass to grow. In the fall, this happens easily from all the leaves that are falling. If the leaves are left on the grass too long, the grass will start to die because the leaf buildup will block the sunlight. This time of the year can also be the best time of the year for your lawn to get light because the tree shade is at a minimum once the leaves fall. Try and keep the amount of leaves on the lawn at a minimum to help your grass thicken up before winter.
Moisture
Your lawn quality can really drop if you take too long to remove the fallen leaves. One of the reasons is because leaves hold moisture and slows evaporation. If the leaves sit too long with all the moisture build-up, then it will cause decay. The combination of this and the lack of sunlight will easily kill the grass in your yard and not only lower the quality but may also impact future growth.
Bare Spots
Having bare spots in your lawn makes the overall lawn not look as nice. Leaves sitting too long in your yard decreases the grasses' vigor, creating the bare spots. This will cause more issues when spring rolls around because the grass will be slow to grow, giving weeds more time to take advantage and fill in the bare/thin spots.
